Situation Critical - New TV Series

14 October 2010

altTune in to TV1 at 8pm on Wednesday October 27, 2010 to see the first episode of a new TV series about organ donation and transplantation.

Situation Critical is a seven-part series made by Auckland production company Starfish Pictures, and was filmed over a seven-month period from November 2009. Its aim is to tell inspiring stories of ordinary New Zealanders in extraordinary circumstances.

Each 30-minute episode follows recipients who need an organ or tissue transplant. The recipients were filmed at home, during their surgery, pre and post-op; and recovering with their families. The camera crew also accompanied the retrieval teams as they travelled to hospitals in New Zealand. In these circumstances the donor and the hospital are kept confidential and there was no filming with the donor family or in the operating theatre.

Six of the seven episodes also feature a historical donor family story.
