Walking 'n' Talking

09 October 2009Over 400 people attended Organ Donation New Zealand's first Walk 'n' Talk at Mount Maunganui on World Day of Organ Donation, October 4.

The purpose of the walk was to raise awareness for organ donation and encourage people to have a conversation with their loved ones about their wishes, should they be faced with a situation where donation is possible.

Donor families, transplant recipients, sports stars (All Black Tanerau Latimer and swimmers Dean Kent and Helen Norfolk), Tauranga Mayor Stuart Crosby and National MP Simon Bridges joined local police and supporters in the walk up, or around, Mount Maunganui.

Those who walked up the Mount congregated at the peak to remember donors and their families who have given the gift of life.

Everyone who participated was given a free event t-shirt. Feedback has been extremely positive and this walk is definitely something ODNZ is keen to continue in future years.
