The Waiting Game
12 March 2009Danielle Koveskali from Titahi Bay says she is in a "long waiting game" for a kidney.
Her mother donated one of hers about five years ago after both of Danielle's failed, but that kidney is now failing too.
"It's hard. I'm upset all the time and always feeling down. I try to take it day by day," the 19 year old says.
She belives that not enough people consider organ donation.
She has been on the waiting list for about seven weeks and is on dialysis, which has been painful and often has not worked.
A friend has offered a kidney and blood tests have been taken but there is a wait to see if it is a match.
"It's really hard. I'm just waiting and hoping it's a match... then I'd be normal, I'd be able to live life like everyone else, with a few differences. I wouldn't have to go into hospital three days a week.
